Episode 6 - Bad lighting, low resolution video but a quality evening with 2 Gingers

Hi everyone and welcome back to an another riveting episode of the Regular Guy's Guide to Whiskey! Once again, we are boldly putting our palates and opinions on the line in the never-ending quest for great whiskey at a reasonable price.  Plus its fun to get together, drink whiskey which really is about all the reason any guy needs.

Tonight we have turned our attention to the interestingly named Irish Whiskey that has started to show up across the United States, 2 Gingers.  First appearing in Minnesota (of all places, seriously?) thanks to an enterprising Irishman and bar owner who via a savvy bit of marketing and entrepreneurship has quickly built up quite a following.  Now, with the help of Jim Beam brands, distribution is spreading across the northern Midwest and over to the east coast - where we just recently stumbled upon it here in Massachusetts.

Most of us know Jameson and Bushmills as the two big global brands of Irish Whiskey.  2 Gingers is making a name for itself via its signature drink, the "Big Ginger" and by keepiong the price point low enough to compete with the big boys.  Certainly the folks at Jameson are more than a little aware of the presence of 2 Gingers, considering the recent legal scuffle the two companies have gotten themselves into.  It appears that suddenly Jameson has decided to advertize its own new drink, the "Big Ginger".  I am sure this is just coincidence (oh yeah).

After coincidentally meeting up with one of the 2 Gingers brand ambassadors, Mairead Heavey (ok, seriously, is that a great Irish name or what!), at our favorite local discount liquor store and hearing about the expanding presence of 2 Gingers in the United States, we had to give it a go.

2 Gingers is made at the Kilbeggan Distillery in Ireland, formerly called the Cooley Distillery. The name is inspired by the founders mother and aunt, apparently two fiery redheads named Mary and Delia. Not sure if they enjoyed Irish Whiskey or just drove others to drink it (kidding!) but it is their illustrations that you will see on the bottle.

With women on the bottle and the name, there have been others that describe 2 Gingers as a whiskey targeted at women. That could be an interesting marketing ploy and might just work but as far as we are concerned, that sort of analogy is a little ridiculous. That is like saying some beer is for men. Living in Boston and going to the local taverns, we are pretty sure women like to drink and will drink just about anything - just like all other humans. One last thing before you watch the video below. It's a little grainy and the lighting was pretty much awful but as you will see, we were also planning ahead for Monday Night Football and our studio production team was unavailable (mostly because they do not exist) :). So forgive us the funky lighting on this one and be sure to check in to upcoming video blog reviews where we think you will notice a significant, HD improvement in video and audio quality.Sit back and enjoy our nine minutes of whiskey tasting and commentary, including Jeff's bold football predictions (that unfortunately proved wrong) and Lance blocking his face from the camera with his whiskey glass.

Slainte!!
Jeff and Lance

Episode 5 - An off-center review of Buffalo Trace Bourbon

Hello again everyone and welcome to another episode of our Emmy-winning (ok, maybe not) whiskey review blog.  This time around, we continue to make do with a crappy little video camera and in this case it was not exactly centered.  So Lance is occasionally out of the picture but this probably makes the video easier to view.

This go-around marks our first shift from Scotch to Bourbon.  Truth be told, Jeff is more of a Scotch guy and Lance has traditionally been more of a Bourbon guy.  But both are willing to learn and explore because lets face it, good whiskey is well.... good whiskey!  So the first few episodes were focused on Scotch but now you will start to see us branch out to other types of whiskey.

As you can see in this video, Lance likes the Buffalo Trace.  Just notice how much is in the bottle when we "begin" to evaluate this fine bourbon and yeah, you can tell we might have been tasting this a few times before.  This is all part of our thorough vetting process where we test, test and then re-test to make sure we are bringing you the very best whiskey for your own consideration.  Don't worry- we plan on continuing to be very thorough in our repetitive evaluations and testing to make sure that each episode of this blog delivers only the finest, reasonably priced whiskey from around the world.

Look for future videos to be higher quality - and be properly centered. But hey, it's good enough, after all, what do you expect from a couple of regular guy's drinking whiskey while shooting a video blog.   Cheers!
