Episode 4 - Grand MacNish 12 Year Old Scotch

Greetings fellow partakers of all things Whiskey!

Once again we are back at the table, this time investigating the value of the Grand Macnish 12 Year Scotch. The Grand Macnish 12 Year Old blended Scotch is aged in Bourbon and Sherry casks. Best of all, it is priced below competitive 12 year Blended Scotches - and that is exactly the sort of thing the two cheapskates here at The Regular Guy's Guide to Whiskey are looking for!

Jeff and I both liked the Grand Macnish, as you will see in the video below. After doing a little internet research on this baby, we discovered we are not the only ones as it was a Silver Medal Winner at the International Review of Spirits in 2013 and a Silver Medal Winner at the International Spirits Challenge in 2013. So all those taste buds can't be wrong!

Salut!

  1. Just found Macnish 12 today in the liquor store in Madison, Ohio for the first time. Just found you guys, and you are both cool, and you have given great advice. I love good scotch, but I am on a really tight budget this month (major furnace repair and impacted wisdom tooth extraction). I was going to purchase JW Red when I saw this Newbie on the bottom shelf, but it said 12 years old. Also, it only cost a little over 20 bucks, so I decided to take the gamble. This is how I break it down: Nose - Actually Good. Initial taste - acceptable enough, but Finish - below average. The finish had a bit of a strange taste to it in my humble journeyman's opinion. I'm a sipper not a mixer. I am sure this would be a good enough mixer. Nice bottle design. ~ Bob.
